Mnqobi Yazo is a well known South African performer who thrives in the roles of actor, director, screenwriter, and singer-songwriter. Mnqobi Yazo, originally named Mnqobi Lindokuhle Msimango, is a singer-songwriter from South Africa. His first project, Iscephu, was released in 2018. He was reared in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and was born in KwaMaphumulo. His first release, Impi in 2020, which included elements of African trap, Afro-pop, and maskandi, was certified platinum in South Africa after he inked a record deal with Mabala Noise.

This tells the story of Mnqobi courting a certain woman with his guitar by using his talent. When Mnqobi began rapping in fourth school, his love for music was sparked at an early age. He experimented with music throughout his academic career, but it wasn’t until he began his professional music career in college that his passion for the field truly blossomed. Mnqobi enrolled in classes at the Creative Arts College following high school. He began listening to Isicathamiya, Afro Jazz, and Maskandi around that period, and he started fusing aspects of various genres to create his own original music. His work attempts to bring legacy into the modern era by fusing modern and traditional African music. In addition, the Durbanite, Sibu Nzuza, Aewon Wolf, and Sounds Taboo created a group.
Currently, Mnqobi is a well-known South African artist who has been featured on prominent billboards and received numerous local and international prizes. Yazo has also tried her hand at acting. He made his on-screen feature debut in 2020 on the drama show The River. He also made a guest appearance in the television show Durban Gen in 2022. When Mnqobi was still in elementary school, he developed a passion for rap music. He received a diploma in performing arts from the Creative Arts College after matriculating. 2018 saw the release of Icephu, his debut project EP. October 30, 2020 saw the release of his debut studio album, Impi, shortly after he inked a record deal with Mabala Noise. It includes Musiholiq, Nobuhle, and Shwi Nomtekhala. In South Africa, the album received a platinum certification. He made his on-screen debut as Steven in The River in November 2020. The release date of i-Stiff was November 25, 2021.
He was cast as a minor role in Durban Gen Telenova in February 2022. UBHOKO, Yazo’s third studio album, was made available on January 26, 2024. Similar to his debut album, UBHOKO is an afro pop record that incorporates maskandi falsetto, isicathamiya-style drawl, and afro zazz. It looks at culture, love, and what it means to be of African origin. Apple Music revealed Yazo as the Up Next artist in South Africa in February 2023.
