Renowned artists share the stage with the top 10 competitors of SABC1’s uShuni Womhlaba festival. During the Umbuso Wamaciko Maskandi Festival, they will take center stage and perform with such notable artists as Ntencane, Shwi, and Gatsheni.
On Saturday, September 28, the festival is held in the Durban Workshop in the city center of Durban. Prior to facing off in the live program, which will be aired on SABC1 on Sunday, October 20, and during which the winner will be declared, the 10 contenders will undergo testing in front of a sizable Umbuso Wamaciko audience. Giving aspiring performers the tools they need to succeed in the real world is essential. Ludwekazi stated, “After weeks of training, master classes, bootcamps, and coaching sessions, they’re now thrown into the real world to utilize what they’ve learned.”
Participating in the massive maskandi festival, according to her, not only tests their development but also gives them a chance to make history by using their creative skills to honor the essence of Africanisms. The festival will feature performances by the top 10 finalists of the uShuni Womhlaba, according to Geh Ngcobo, the organizer of Umbuso Wamaciko. Telkom is the sponsor of both the tournament and our event, thus it was determined that they should have an opportunity to perform for a large audience.
“We’ve given them thirty minutes to show off their skills in front of a sizable audience on the main stage,” he stated. While VIP tickets are R650, the event is free.
