Maskandi is a Zulu traditional music form that was pioneered by Zibokwakhe Johnstone Mnyandu, better known as Phuzekhemisi, or “Drink the medicine,” an established South African musician and social activist. Merging township jive and maskandi, the first album “Imbizo” a collaboration with his brother Khetahni sold more than 100,000 albums and went double platinum.
