Ihhashi Elimhlophe Biography
Ihashi Elimhlophe is an amazing and talented maskandi artist. He is a well known figure in maskandi traditional Zulu music production. Ihashi Elimhlophe is the group leader and brain behind Bheki Ngcobo which was first documented in 1986. He has never looked back since. In the year 1976, Bheki Ngcobo left his little KwaBiyela township in KwaZulu-Natal for Johannesburg in search of opportunities in the vast metropolis of gold.
The Ihhashi family further grew maintaining the following ways coming from Ihhashi’s wife Linah Khama (also known as Ebony) who is one of the top female musicians in South Africa who made a name for herself in the local music scene in the 1980s and early 1990s, and their four children are featured in Amaponi. Ihashi released joint records with two other renowned maskandi musicians, Phuzekhemisi and Mfazi Omnyma, who went by the name Izinqunqulu Zomhlaba. This group greatly revolutionized maskandi music and contributed to Ihashi’s fame.
He began his musical career with the renowned Soul Brothers as their bass guitarist. They chose him to be the main vocalist of their junior group, Imitshotshovu, after noticing his exceptional potential. Bheki chose to become a solo artist after making the popular album “Icala.” At that point, he dubbed himself “IhhashiElimhlophe” which is also known as the “the White Horse“. His unique 14-string instrument earned him a reputation as a guitar master. ‘Hololo’, his debut album, was quickly followed by a series of positive releases. He has released 28 studio albums under the name Ihhashi Elimhlophe thus far.
