Maskandi has set to host an amazing events in its capital city for the first time. This amazing event is to be held at Pietermaritzburg. Pietermaritzburg is the capital of KZN. The capital city, KZN Midlands, hosts several festivals, including one that pays homage to Maskandi.
The Maskandi Royal Show will take place on Sunday, October 20 in Pietermaritzburg’s Royal Show grounds. Previously known as the PMB Royal Show grounds, the event will take place on the last day of the annual Pietermaritzburg Show, which started on Thursday, October 10.
In their festivals, several games are featured which includes some amazing genres like hip hop and amapiano. The PMB Royal Show grounds also hosted this features in their previous festival. Its program this year now includes the Maskandi Festival, which is first in their capital city.
The Maskandi Festival’s arrival in the capital city was long delayed, according to Zazi Nxele, organizer of the Maskandi Royal Show, who spoke to the news. Maskandi is so popular in Pietermaritzburg that it has numerous groups of maskandi supporters and their leaders that back various maskandi artists, including Khuzani, Mthandeni, and others. They’ve been requesting that we hold a maskandi festival for a while, and I’m glad that we were able to do so this year,” he said.
The fact that each region in KZN has its own maskandi festival, leaving the capital city behind and requiring them to visit festivals in other regions, was seen insulting by Zazi. The platform will be shared by Maskandi artists Mthandini SK, Khuzani Mpungose, Gatsheni, Ntencane, Phuzekhemisi, Ichwane lika Phuzekhemisi, and Qadasi & Maqhinga. According to Zazi, they worked with the festival organizers to reduce the cost of tickets in order to make room for festivalgoers.
These amazing event is expected to start by 12pm on that day.
