NOMECEBO ZIKODE’S LIFE/CARRER
Nomcebo, 38, developed a love for music at an early age through her participation in local music competitions and singing in her church choir. Following her graduation, she went on to pursue a career in music, providing backing vocals for a variety of musician. When Nomcebo and DJ Ganyani worked together on the popular song “Emazulwini” in 2019, it was her big break. But what really shot her to international fame in 2020 was her appearance in Master KG’s worldwide hit “Jerusalema.” Zikode disclosed on July 11, 2021, that her label Open Mic Productions had not compensated her for her feature on the song.

She spent more than fifteen years working primarily as a background vocalist after leaving home to start a career in music. She collaborated with artists from South Africa, such as Nhlanhla Nciza, Deborah Fraser, Zahara, and Lundi Tyamara. She was signed to Ganyani Entertainment and sang lead vocals on several songs, such as “NTO,” “Jabulile,” and “Emazulwini,” which was nominated for a SAMA award for Record of the Year. She was not allowed to perform the songs live without permission from the label because she did not possess the rights to them. Zikode received the AIDONIC Good Ambassador Award in 2021.

Her song “Xola Moya Wam” featuring Master KG was made available as the lead single of the album on August 14, 2020. Within the first two weeks of release, the song received a gold rating from the South African Recording Industry. The song reached the top of both the iTunes and Apple Music charts. Album pre-orders went up in early August.

On August 21, 2020, Xola Moya Wam, her first studio album, was made available. Bongo Beats, Makhadzi, and Master KG are featured. After 150 000 copies were sold in just one month following the album’s release, it was certified platinum. Zikode inked a worldwide recording contract with Sony/ATV Music in 2020. She took home the Best Female Artist title in the inaugural KZN Entertainment Awards on December 3, 2020.
