DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sekowe was born in South Africa on November 15, 1987. He is a DJ, record producer, singer, and composer.He is a record producer that specializes in house music, amapiano, and afropop. He has produced songs for a number of well-known artists, including Major Lazer, Runtown, C4 Pedro, TRESOR, Kabza De Small, Era Istrefi, Mpura, Young Stunna, Drake, Black Coffee, and Wizkid.Before starting BlaqBoy Music, his own record label, he was signed to Kalawa Jazmee Records. After composing various popular tracks for musicians from various genres, including Uhuru (“Y-Tjukuta”), Kwesta (“Ngud'”), Busiswa (“Lahla”), DJ Zinhle (“My name Is”), Professor (“Jezebel”), and Shekinah (“Suited”), he became widely known.

He dropped the track “Midnight Starring” in September 2018. it featured Moonchild Sanelly, DJ Tira, and Busiswa. He was nominated for two awards at the 2018 DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards as the Favorite DJ and Favorite Song of the Year.At the third Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards presentation on November 27, 2018, his song “Midnight Starring” took home the prize for most voted and loved for song.

Maphorisa, TRESOR, and Kabza De Small’s combined studio album “Rumble in the Jungle” dropped on April 9, 2021. The studio EP Banyana by Anathi and Tyler ICU came out on April 16, 2021. Visca, Mpura, Daliwonga & Kabza De Small, and Sir Trill were all featured on the EP. The South African Recording Industry awarded the single “Banyana” double platinum after it received over 4.2 million plays. He started the Made in Lagos Tour in 2021, opening for Wizkid. He was nominated for a 2021 Music Kwaito and House Music Awards Best DJ honor. He and Kabza De Small, featuring Ami Faku, dropped the single “Abalele” on September 17, 2021. He composed the tracks “Makosa” and “Nyota” by Congolese artist TRESOR from the album “motion”.

He collaborated with Afrika Memani in November 2022 on the Road To Private EP, which was made available on November 4th.

At the Soundcity MVP Awards, which were hosted at the Eko Convention Center in Lagos, DJ Maphorisa was named African DJ of the Year. With additional producers like Tyler ICU, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSAand Tyron Dee cooperating, he appeared on the smash single “Mnike” in April 2023. The song peaked at No. 1 on several South African notice. He made the decision to work with Kabza De Small on a 25 track mixtape project called “The Konka Mixtape, “Sweet And Dust” in May 2023.
