ABOUT SHWI NOMTEKHALA

Shwi Nomtekhala comprises of an amazing south africa duo singers. During the late 1990s, the South African maskandi pair Shwi no Mtekhala was founded. Zwelenduna Rodgers Magubane and Mandla Xaba made up the collective. Growing up in Msinga, KwaZulu–Natal, Shwi (born Mandla Xaba) and Mtekhala (born Zwelenduna Rodgers Magubane) met. They moved to Johannesburg in pursuit of employment, where they composed music for the Hlanganani Isicathimiaya grouping.

They originally gained national attention in 2004 when Wangisiza Baba, their debut album, sold over half a million copies. Sales of this CD are still rising to this day. Subsequently, the album Angimazi uBaba (2006) was released, and it is rapidly approaching quadruple platinum status today. For two years in a row, these two won the Best Selling Album SAMA and SATMA awards. They also received a SAMA for Best Maskandi Album for Angimazi uBaba. They released their first-ever live DVD in October 2006, taped in the Buyafuthi Hostel in Thokoza, making history as the first Maskandi act to do so. The DVD has performed just as nicely.

Nevertheless, nobody could have imagined, given their modest origins, the fact that they might one day rule the music business and achieve in elevating Maskandi music to new heights. The two flawless voices behind Shwi no Mthekhala, who are both from the KZN homelands, started their musical careers as singers for the isicathamiya ensemble Hlanganani, of which they are both also members. Despite being a tenor singer, Shwi was renowned for his skill on the guitar. On the flip side, Mtekhala gained notoriety for his upbeat act and strong voice. As a result, the two worked together to create Shwi no Mtekhala, a maskandi costume.

The band recorded “Woza Baba,” their first-ever album, in 1999. It performed well on sales when it was introduced in 2000. “Ukufa,” released in 2001, was the album’s successor. The album “Dustbin” has been published by them in 2002.

But Wangisiza Baba, which came out in 2005, was the one that really caught music fans’ attention. Interesting works on this album, which features twelve tracks, thoroughly explore a distinctive fusion of traditional Zulu rhythms. By selling a record-breaking 500 000 copies, they are now making history! As the first Maskandi group to win the Best Selling Album at the SAMAs, they cemented their position in history with this victory. Not just for the ensemble but also for maskandi music in general, this record marked a significant turning point.

THE DUO RELATIONSHIP/AGE

HISTORIC ,After arguments over leadership, the popular Mzansi pair Shwi NoMtekhala has legally split up, with every member beginning their own ventures. Despite selling over 750 000 copies in 2004, the Ngafa hitmakers refused to address problems after 22 years in the recording industry. Their age isn’t clearly stated online but they look late 30’s.
