MaWhoo surprises many as he tend to continue with maskandi music
Thandeka Ngema who is better known by her stage as MaWhoo, is thrilled with her recent achievement. Within a day of its release, her most recent track, Gucci, starring maskandi master Mthandeni Manqele, had over a million views on YouTube. The Ngilimele hitmaker discussed her decision to switch from Amapiano to Maskandi in an interview with the news.
I’ve done maskandi before, so it was simple for me. My previous album had a collaboration with Inkosi Yama Gcomokama. Maskandi is what I grew up listening to, and I adore it. Because I was particularly selected for the collaboration by Mthandeni’s management, writing the song went well,” MaWhoo stated.
She claimed that Mthandeni’s clarity over the song’s theme love made the procedure simple. She found it easy to write the lyrics with this guidance. “I would love to work with Mthandeni again in the future, so I declined his management’s offer to pay me for the feature.”
She went on to discuss her experience working with Mthandeni, stating that he is a wonderful person and that this contributes to the positive atmosphere at the studio. “Mthandeni is really awesome. He was easy to chat to, and I felt at ease in his presence. The studio was a hive of activity. While writing the song, we were all quite joyful. I had never met him before, but I was struck by how kind and welcoming his whole staff was,” she recalled. Given the song’s Maskandi origins, MaWhoo finds the popularity of the song astounding.
“The positive response from the Maskandi community excites me. Although I am aware that maskandi has cultural roots, I was surprised by the affection I got. Even while amapiano is still my major focus, this experience made me realize that I’d want to perform more maskandi music. Together, we made history.
MaWhoo also discussed the beneficial effects this partnership had on her career. “My support network has increased, along with my following, and the money aspect has been fantastic. I sincerely appreciate that Mthandeni’s staff made sure I got my part before the song was even released. “I’m truly well-known for my spiritual voice and songs that appeal to audiences of all ages. My songs are timeless. Maskandi holds great significance, and this initiative has helped me get new followers, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal. “The journey has been incredible,” she remarked.
