maskandi musician legend kicks the bucket
Ofeleba (umbhaqanga) is one of the amazing group in the history of maskandi music. One of its members Khumbulani Kubheka as recently given up the ghost.
Khumbulani Kubheka is a well known maskandi musician. He is also a choreographer, dancer and backing vocalist For Maskandi icon Thokozani Langa who also felt strange after following a brief illness, passed away on Tuesday, February 6 at Ngwelezane Hospital in KZN.
The music business, which is still grieving the departure of Soul Brothers musician Scelo Ndlela, who passed away last month, has suffered yet another setback with his passing.
In umbhaqanga and maskandi music which is “Khumbulani” is a native of Bergville, KZN Midlands, was revered for his skills as a singer, dancer, keyboardist, and music producer.
Among several others, he collaborated with Abakhwenyana, Themba Ngwenya, the late Bhekumuzi Luthuli, Ofeleba, and Thokozani Langa. Due to Khumbulani’s versatility, Thokozani “Somnandi” Langa informed the newspaper that he is devastated by his passing.
During the year 2007, Khumbulani began working alongside my group. We chose him mostly because he was an extremely skilled supporting vocalist, band choreographer, and live performance artist.
Xolani “Sxubho” Mkhize, a member of Ofeleba, told the Daily Sun that he still finds it hard to comprehend Khumbulani’s departure.
He served as a fantastic choreographer who trained us skills on how to dance, and he also introduced me into Ofeleba when I first joined the group as a junior member. The fact that Ofeleba also had Maqhude and Mdu Malinga, who are also now gone with us, makes the pain even worse.
He was skilled in diverse places musician who was also a skilled dancer, singer, and producer. He was patient in showing us the route, and that is why I am here today,” he remarked.
Khumbulani has always lived among us in the living and still lives with in us. He still remains a legend.
